The “Stone Moon”is actually a paraphrase of “Yahaba”in the Lisu dialect, not knowing since what time the Nu River inhabitants give it such a poetic name. This moon-shaped hole, formed after ten thousands and even billions of years of erosion from wind and rain, stands in an awesome pose towering above Gaoligong mountain ranges along the banks of the Nu River,it looks just like a bright moon, hanging above the mountain peaks and forests, joining the heaven and earth and never falling day and night, its amazing craftsmanship wins admiration. It is also clearly visible from hundred miles away.
It is said that the Flying Tiger heroes in the Hump air route determine they have entered the Chinese territory upon see it from mid-air. Lisu tribe of the Nu River believes that the “Stone Moon”is the birthplace of the Lisu ethnic group, as their ancestors came from here.
